Decluttering your Home – Our 5 Handy Tips

So it seems that you’ve become a squirrel recently and your belongings have doubled in a short space of time. Is it time to tackle the clutter?

If you are looking to get your house ready for selling, than this is the perfect time to start decluttering your home. With our handy guide, this will help point you in the right direction!

  • Start with a plan

Before you start sorting through belongings, it’s a great idea to list each room with which items you want to tackle. This will allow you keep to the plan and get those items sorted.

  • Start a ‘Throwing out System’

Another great idea, is to get four large bags or boxes out so you can place items in, this can be sorted for ‘Keeping’, ‘Recycle’ and ‘Charity Shop’.

  • Broken Electrical items

Don’t be tempted to store broken electrical items, if they don’t work or are broken in any way. Throw them out! They are taking up valuable space and this space could be used for something else.

  • Storage Boxes

Once you have sorted your belongings out and are ready to store them in the loft or to be thrown away, it’s a great idea to label each box with the items included, therefore you will never lose any item and it will also give you great satisfaction in knowing where everything is.

  • Organising

Once you have sorted through all your items, now’s the time to get organised! Start with putting the less used items stored in the loft or in a cupboard so they are out of the way. For clothing it can difficult and you want everything in front of your eyes. A great way of organising your wardrobe is to section the rail into clothes that you wear every day, workwear and special occasions. This will allow you to keep to your plan. It is said that if you haven’t worn it over the last 12 months, you don’t need it!

Finally remember to have fun and enjoy sorting through your items and maybe reliving some memories, after you have had a good sort out, you will feel much better for it!
